NEAG has concerns around the demolition of the old Sun Valley Mall and the erection of a new mall by Shoprite Checkers . The site of the mall is basically the gateway to Sun Valley and to the mountain chain so it is important that we get it right this time around. The old mall was an exact copy of the old Eastgate mall in Joburg, which was just parachuted into the area. Now that blot in the landscape is going to go, let’s try to get some decent architecture and infrastructure in the area! NEAG therefore addressed the following letter to the new owners in March 2013:
Att: Mr Whitey Basson and the Board of Shoprite Checkers PO Box 215 Brackenfell 7561 Western Cape Dear Mr Basson and the board, We write on behalf of the civic organisations of the South Peninsula of Cape Town in order to raise matters related to the design and running of your newly acquired property in the area, Sun Valley Mall, on the corner of Ou Kaapse Weg and Noordhoek Main Road.
