Friends of the Common Club

Dear Friends,

The Noordhoek Common is a precious piece of our community, used, loved and enjoyed by many of us. In order to preserve it for our future a team of local volunteers, the Common Committee, protects its interests. Throughout the year there are plenty of ongoing projects involving tree planting, water management, grass mowing, alien plant control, river protection and dog poo cleaning. In order to facilitate all this we raise funds by hiring our Common for film shoots, Noordhoek riding events and horse grazing. We are also assisted by donations of skills, labour and tools from members of the community. Despite all the effort put into generating income through our own means we fall short by approximately R10,000 each year and need to use alternative means of income generation. So we are reaching out to the community and users of the Common to raise funds. By joining the Friends of the Common Club you will directly help the ongoing maintenance of the Common.

How it Works

Club members donate R50 per month to the Club. This enters you into a monthly prize draw — a club member is picked at random to receive the monthly R500 prize. The remaining money goes towards maintaining the Noordhoek Common. The Common’s budget and spending are published on our website and all donations are fully accounted for.

How to Join
1. Deposit your donation into the Noordhoek Conservancy bank account (details below).
We prefer a lump sum for the year: R600 (this is less administration work for our busy volunteers). Otherwise please deposit R50 per month.
2. Email us (info@ournoordhoek.org.za) to let us know you’ve donated and joined the club. We’ll need your name, email address and telephone number to contact you if you win the prize. We’ll also send out a monthly email letting you know who the winner was, and any news from the Common.

More Info
  • See the Environmental Management Plan (the “constitution” for the Common)
  • See our budget, and management plan (what the money gets spent on).
  • This team of volunteers, known as the Common Committee, falls under the management umbrella of the Noordhoek Conservancy.
Please forward this email on to friends that you know would be interested in joining.
Thank you for supporting the Noordhoek Common (and good luck for winning the prize)!
All the best,
Christopher Higgo
