An Early Detection and Rapid Response (EDRR) Team will be deployed in Noordhoek as soon as one is available, following a site meeting with NEAG and the CoCT’s Invasive Alien Species Department in April 2013.
This rapidly spreading alien creeper has infested two sites in Noordhoek—Beach Road (near the carpark) and the nearby Monkey Valley Resort where it has reached epidemic proportions (see pictures).
Large portions of milkwood and wild-olive trees at Monkey Valley are already completely smothered and have died off.
It is vital that clearing work be done now while in flower, so that the full extent of the plant can be seen and nothing missed. All cut material needs to be disposed in a manner ensuring that infestation is not introduced to other areas.
