Dear ON THE VERGE supporters and enthusiasts
I have never been very good at admin and even worse at correspondence, so please forgive the lapse in time since the last news letter. I am very good at hard work though, so rest assured the On the Verge team has been busy! Believe it or not, On The Verge is in its 4th year!
I am so grateful for the fabulous bit of rain we have just had, because once again, we find ourselves carrying water in my old trailer every Wednesday to try and keep our new trees and planted beds alive. Thank you to the wonderful neighbours that have all helped to water the new bed on the Sea Cottage Drive corner and other verges.
We have embarked on another lovely long term garden near the entrance to Avondrust Mews and the NRA fields, with the help of a few passionate Avontrust residents and some dedicated watering by the gardeners. The new electricity cable set our planting back a bit, but we seem to be moving ahead again with this garden.
Our other large garden project on the open ground near the Noordhoek Manor entrance is really starting to look like a garden!
We managed to do some planting in the two prepared beds against the walls at the other entrance to Sea Cottage Drive, but I see the lovely newly plastered wall will mean the garden will require a bit of extra TLC – aah well, the life of a gardener!
We now have 22 projects on the go on the Noordhoek verges; planted over 60 trees & about 30 trailer loads of shrubs, spread 100’s of bags of mulch and watered gallons of buckets of water.
We are constantly in need of plant material, mulch, tree stakes and watering help. Please let me know if you have anything from your garden that could be used on the verges and we will come and pick it up if necessary. I am really bad at reminding our dear sponsors to renew their pledge payments after 6 months, so please feel free to drop me an email if you are unsure of when last you made a payment. I would like to put the guys’ wages up to R140pd this year, so a 6 monthly sponsorship would now be R840. Our Bank details are:
