Dear ON THE VERGE supporters and enthusiasts
Winter has finally arrived, which is always a mixed blessing for gardeners – If only it could be like Camelot, where it rains at night and is beautiful during the day!
Come rain or shine, you will see our guys and the moth-eaten “on the verge” signs out on a Wednesday.
It was heartening to see how many of our trees, planted along the main Rd and now in their third year, made it on their own this summer with less ‘watering trips’ needed. Our gardens around the post-office, sub-station in Village Lane, The Paddocks Lane garden, Sea-Cottage corner gardens, Common Corner gardens and the Avondrust Mews garden are all looking established and substantial.
We have had a few Fish Hoek High School students volunteer their community service hours (a requirement for Life Orientation in Grade 10, 11, 12) to On The Verge and have tackled some Port Jackson clearing and poisoning with them. The little historic graveyard site near Avondrust Mews is receiving some of this much needed alien clearing attention.
As many of you know the Noordhoek Conservancy, who very kindly used to supply us with a bank account, has ceased to exist and therefore, we have acquired a new account for donations towards the On The Verge Project. The Common Committee will be responsible for keeping the books and reimbursing me the funds used for wages and equipment costs.
We are always in need of funds, and I am not always good at asking or reminding our supporters when your 6 monthly donations run out. I therefore thought, instead of asking for a 6 month donation, and then forgetting to remind sponsors when the 6 months is up, I would ask for an on-going monthly stop order into the On the Verge account for R150.00
Please would you consider continuing your support to On The Verge in this way.
