“THERAPY IN MOTION”
September 2014

Dear Sir / Madam

The end of the year is almost here and what a hard year it has been for most South Africans! And many will not have much over this festive season.
.
We at Sleepy Hollow Horse Riding and SARDA would like to make a memorable day for 32 children, their parents and the loving and dedicated people who take care of them during the day by inviting them to our End of Year Party and show on the 20th of November.

Sleepy Hollow Horse Riding in Noordhoek is a full branch of SARDA (SA Riding for the Disabled Association) and offers free therapeutic horse riding to local special needs children.  Most of the children are from the communities of Ocean View, Retreat, Red Hill & Masiphumelele and they attend the Special Care Unit called Sinethemba, which is based in Masiphumelele.   Sleepy Hollow has been providing therapeutic riding for the disabled for the past 18 years, every Thursday morning, during the school terms.

We start the day with riders showing off there abilities and improvements over the year.   At the prize giving each child is awarded a certificate (with a picture of them and their pony) as well as a SARDA rosette.  This is a very proud moment for the parents for it is not often that they get to see their children’s success and achievement, and children’s pure joy of partaking in a show and awards ceremony. Many of the parents work full time and have to put in for a days leave to be able to attend, emphasising again the importance of this day to both children and their families.

After the show it’s party time! This is when the children, their families, staff, volunteers and friends celebrate the show with snacks and drinks. Young and old, laughing together, where the disability is of no concern, enjoyment and success being the focus. The last 2 years we had over 90 people celebrating this day with us. To be able to cater for this number of children and guests we are in need of donations of snacks, eats, drinks and small gifts for the children.

SARDA end of Year party
Yours sincerely
